Megan MC Melidonis
I am a Marine Scientist with my PhD in Marine Biology (University of Cape Town, South Africa). My experience includes commercial diving, Marine Mammal Observing and working as a Fisheries Liaison Officer on research vessels offshore. I have six years' working experience as a Marine Consultant, gaining extensive intertidal and subtidal experience in cool-temperate and subtropical coastal and offshore regions of Southern Africa. I also have dispersion modelling skills enabling me to predict effluent discharge patterns from Wastewater Treatment Works, aquaculture facilities and reverse osmosis desalination plants, as well as marine whole effluent toxicity testing techniques to determine impacts of activities such as industrial effluent discharge and dredging using algae and sea urchins as indicators. I have worked in both central and regional government positions in New Zealand and currently head up the regional Marine and Coastal Programme at Greater Wellington Regional Council to advise on sound management of marine ecosystems.
