Sharon Gabie
Dr. Sharon Gabie is an Applied Anthropologist specialising in the intersection of identity politics, personhood, and the political economy of certain territories in South Africa. In 2023, she joined the Chair of Ocean Cultures and Heritage at Nelson Mandela University, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, as a postdoctoral fellow and senior research assistant. In her current study on oceans, she investigates the role of the First Nations people, their intangible cultural heritage with the sea and their involvement in the blue economy. Dr Gabie’s doctoral research examined the intricate relationships between individuals and the state within specific territories, offering a comprehensive analysis from both micro and macro perspectives. Her work provides valuable insights into how identity and personhood are influenced by political and economic structures, enhancing our understanding of citizen-state interactions.
