Xinlong Liu
My name is Xinlong Liu, and I am a second-year PhD candidate at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) and the Australian Antarctic Program Partnership (AAPP) at the University of Tasmania (UTAS). My research focuses on remote sensing of snow depth and sea-ice thickness in the Antarctic region, utilizing CryoSat-2 radar altimetry and ICESat-2 laser altimetry measurements. I am supervised by Dr. Stuart Corney, Dr. Petra Heil, and Dr. Rachel Tilling.
Prior to my PhD, I completed a 2+2 joint bachelor's program in marine sciences (physical oceanography) between the Ocean University of China (OUC) and UTAS. During my sophomore year, I undertook a maritime internship aboard the scientific research vessel DONG FANG HONG 2 in Qingdao, China. For my Honours year, my research focused on the characteristics and trends of the Campbell Plateau Meander in the Southern Ocean from 1993 to 2020, under the guidance of Dr. Amelie Meyer and Dr. Chris Chapman.
