Aaarti Tiakarajah 2024 Australian Marine Sciences Association Annual Meeting combined with NZMSS

Aaarti Tiakarajah

I’m currently a Master of Research student at Macquarie University, diving into the fascinating world of sea turtle nesting. My research focuses on understanding what makes a perfect nesting spot for these amazing creatures, the climate change challenges they face, and how we can better protect them. Before this, I was actually a Journalism graduate who took a bit of a detour—I spent eight years as a zookeeper, sharing my love for animals and doing my part for conservation in a more hands-on way. Now, I'm back in the classroom (and the field!) to take on a bigger role in conservation science. If you’re up for some fun animal stories or want to chat about anything wildlife, come find me—I’m always game for a good animal talk!
