Jessica A Tout-Lyon 2024 Australian Marine Sciences Association Annual Meeting combined with NZMSS

Jessica A Tout-Lyon

Jess is a marine molecular ecologist and early career researcher at CSU based on Birpai Country, Port Macquarie. Known to float upstream on an incoming tide, her work also includes estuarine and freshwater ecosystems. Jess established the new regionally-based AMMbER (Aquatic Molecular and Microbial Ecology Research) lab in late 2023, which focuses on using molecular tools and engaging with citizen scientists to explore "Source to Sea Science". Jess is a member of the Marine Bioproducts CRC and has worked with a diverse array of marine organisms including corals, sponges, algae, bacteria, and currently (excitedly) works with endangered and endemic freshwater turtles and fishes. Jess previously worked outside academia in industry, government and was privileged to work for First Nations Elders in her local community. Jess is an advocate for life-style centric career planning and in her "spare time" can be found with two young boys, enthusiastically running rings around her on Dunghutti Country.
