Aidan P Long 2024 Australian Marine Sciences Association Annual Meeting combined with NZMSS

Aidan P Long

I am a Marine ecologist and fisheries researcher. My main research interest is understanding long term trends in marine communities and how this effects fisheries and other human activities. As a research scientist in the Surveys, Assessments and Data Analysis team, I am investigating the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on recreational fisheries in Western Australia, as well as ongoing assessments of recreational fisheries in the state. I have previously worked as an environmental consultant at Hydrobiology in Perth and at AQUAFACT APEM Ltd in Galway in both mid- and senior levels, where I have managed the collation, analysis and reporting of large multidisciplinary datasets including biological, physical and geochemical data. During my most recent postdoctoral research position, I collated and analysed over 60 years of ranched and wild Atlantic salmon growth data derived from salmon scales. For my PhD, I built time series for gelatinous zooplankton in Irish waters and modelled their abundance and diversity alongside environmental and climatic variables.
