Hannah Greenhough

My current research is centered on examining the impact of harmful algal blooms (HABs) and climate change stressors on Green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) biology at all stages of their lifecycle. This work employs a diverse range of methodologies such as transcriptomics, flow cytometry, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and laboratory-based investigations. Results from my PhD will fill current knowledge gaps on the impacts of HABs on marine fauna health and will provide regulators and farmers with further insight into the future challenges the industry may face with the increasing prevalence and duration of blooms and changes to climate. It will likely also help to direct efforts to mitigate these effects. These efforts include monitoring programs, the development of predictive models to identify HABs, and the best use of treatment options such as bioremediation and chemical control measures.
