Robert (Bob) Hickman
Bob spent 40 years working for FRD (Fisheries Research Division), MAF (Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries) and NIWA (National Institute of Water and Atmosphere) researching aquaculture development in New Zealand. He worked across a multitude of species, encompassing shellfish (oysters, mussels, abalone, horse mussel), crustaceans (rock lobster, brine shrimp) and fish (turbot, brill, salmon, butterfish, kingfish). Bob retired in 2009 but has maintained his interest in marine science - convening NZMSS input into the previous joint AMSA/NZMSS conference in Hobart in 2012 - and particularly in mussel farming, following his pioneering involvement in developing the industry.
