Ajay A Venkataraman
Ajay is a PhD candidate working in the field of coastal ecology at James Cook University. Having worked previously in marine conservation, he has a strong interest in the application of foundational ecological knowledge to the management of fisheries and coastal ecosystems. His project involves the identification and categorisation of coastal fish nursery habitats. A focal point of this project is a genus of tropical snapper (Lutjanus), commonly harvested across the world's tropical fisheries and known to utilise a range of different habitats throughout their life history. Species-specific information on habitat use patterns in early life stages could potentially shed light on critical fish habitats for conservation, management and restoration, to safeguard source populations.
