Emma J Theobald 2024 Australian Marine Sciences Association Annual Meeting combined with NZMSS

Emma J Theobald

I am a PhD student at CQUniversity, Gladstone Campus, working with industry partner the Australian Seaweed Institute. My research is focused on developing hatchery and cultivation techniques for the red seaweed Asparagopsis taxiformis, a species with significant commercial potential, including as a potent anti-methanogenic feed supplement for ruminants. Asparagopsis is also an effective biofilter for the bioremediation of nutrient enriched waters. I hope my research will assist in the development and scaling of ocean-based cultivation of Asparagopsis in Queensland, a sector which has the potential to improve water quality in the Great Barrier Reef Lagoon and generate products to improve the sustainability of livestock farming.
