Jan-Olaf Meynecke
I am a marine scientist specialising in whale ecology, behaviour, migration and the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems. I advance the Whales and Climate Research Program hosted at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, where I integrate satellite and acoustic telemetry, drone technology, oceanographic modelling, bioacoustics and citizen science to better understand whale movements and habitat use.
I am also the founder and CEO of Humpbacks & High-Rises, a Queensland-based citizen science organisation established in 2011 that engages communities in whale monitoring, education and marine conservation.
I focuses on translating scientific knowledge into practical conservation outcomes, supporting more effective marine management and improving understanding of the interactions between whales, climate and human activities.
