Communicating climate change through the lens of the ocean is a powerful strategy, but it is not always easy. In this speed talk, I’ll share insights from my PhD research and ocean-climate communication workshops conducted across Australia. While awareness of ocean and climate impacts is high and concern for ocean health is increasing, many people lack a sense of personal efficacy. Impactful communication must do more than raise awareness—it should show people tangible ways forward. This talk will provide practical strategies for crafting messages which foster a sense of agency and empower individuals to become proactive agents in addressing the climate challenges facing our oceans.
