Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) will be unavoidable in the fight against climate change and the marine system offers many promising approaches. Before any of these could be implemented on a larger scale however, we first need an international agreement on how we monitor, report, and verify the effectiveness of mCDR. By building a global network of six continental nodes (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and Oceania) within the SOLAS framework, we aim to help establish an internationally agreeable foundation for MRV standards, recognizing the interconnected nature of the ocean beyond national boundaries and jurisdiction. We will report on our progress in this project and place particular emphasis on analysing areas of agreement between the continental nodes and identifying potential areas of disagreement.
