Developing a sustainable ocean plan is complex, engaging stakeholders with diverse views and priorities. Plans are often designed and steered by high level processes, but a vital part of advancing sustainability strategies is engaging the wider community from the start. Local communities, organisations and youth form essential mechanisms necessary for the operationalisation of these strategies. Seychelles is recognised for innovatively advancing its blue economy, but challenges in localisation of the plan remain. This presentation will highlight some of these challenges and will emphasize key considerations that are vital for diverse local engagement in countries aiming to advance a more sustainable blue economy.
