Parks Australia have identified priority research gaps that need addressing to inform policy and management of Australian Marine Parks. The presentation will outline the prioritisation approach, which included clear definitions of park values and vulnerability assessments. The prioritisation is part of the Australian Marine Parks Science Program, which aims to build the knowledge base needed to inform decision-making at a range of spatial and temporal scales. It will guide Parks Australia’s investment and work planning by science partners to collect new information and develop tools to better understand the values in our parks and the benefits derived from ecologically sustainable use. We are also developing systems to evaluate the effectiveness of management actions and assess options that can deliver environmental outcomes in a rapidly changing ocean.
